diabetes5Diabetes is a medical disorder which is characterized by hyperglycemia or high blood sugar levels. This is mostly because of problems with the secretion of insulin, hormone responsible for controlling blood sugar levels within the body. The two main forms - Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed very early in life also know as juvenile diabetes. It is due to genetic fault which affects the body’s ability to secret insulin. Therefore Type 1 diabetic patients have to take daily insulin injections.

Type 2 diabetes is much more common form of diabetes found in adult onset and occurs later age. Although, the insulin is still being produced by the cells but for some reason the insulin does not work as it should and thus the body suffers from a rise in blood sugar level.

Uncontrolled or untreated diabetes has many risks may lead to life threatening conditions; such as cardiovascular disease, chronic renal failure, and retinal and nerve damage. Therefore it is important to prevent diabetes, in addition to general advice on living with the condition is very important. To control diabetes proper diet, medication and lifestyle changes are very essential.

Following are some ways to prevent diabetes:

1. Have control over your weight
Attain an ideal weight suggested by the physician. Mostly obesity invites diabetes if failure to control body weight beyond certain limit.

2. Do Exercise Regularly
Physical exercises proved to be helpful to prevent us from diabetes.
Walking and performing household tasks also help a lot if unable to go to gym.

3. Take correct diet
Avoid sugar and fats as far as possible. You should restrict the amounts of starches and glucose, as diabetic patients have problems with production and usage of insulin in the body. You should eat more fruits and vegetable as pigments present in them can help to stimulate the production of insulin in the body.

4. Go for Regular checkups
Visit your doctor regularly and find it out your sugar level. Now days you can measure blood sugar using equipment on our own. Checkups are to know the risk factors for diabetes, especially after the age of 45. This is especially important if you have a family history of diabetes or you are already overweight.

5. Control over blood pressure
if you want yourself to prevent from diabetes it is vital to keep your blood pressure down. It is observed that many people who have high blood pressure end up with diabetes and vise a versa.

6. Natural Remedies
We have natural remedies also available for the treatment of diabetes like fenugreek seeds, onion and garlic, margosa or neem extracts (azadirachta indica - a subtropical tree) and bitter melon or bitter gourd extracts. Though these remedies have no proven efficacy and therefore should not replace prescribed medication for diabetes control.
